Blantyre is the economic capital of Malawi in Eastern Africa. It is a great place to vacation and a safe place for tourists, no matter what your budget. There are two ways to travel around Blantyre: on minibuses or on foot. Walking around the city is easy to do and relatively safe. On foot you can see the entire city in only a couple of days. If you would rather travel by minibus, they are available and are inexpensive. you can also call a taxi, or even rent a bicycle if you would like.

A great tourist spot to visit is the Mandala House. It is an art gallery and cafe. There are many cafe style restaurants in the city, as well as inexpensive and more expensive dining options. Street vendors are great for quick bite without spending a lot of money. There are a dozen of so inexpensive restaurants throughout the city, and more expensive restaurants near the Ryalls Hotel.

If you come to Blantyre, be sure to check out the many shops. The downtown area has Asian-run shops, and there is also the popular market area a perfect drive away for a car hire, that is always bustling with people trying to buy and sell goods such as fruit and clothing. There are places where one can shop for Western-style clothing and goods.

As for hotels, there are three major hotels in the city: the Ryalls Hotels, the Hotel Victoria, and Le Meridien Mount Soche. There are also a couple a lodges you can stay at if you are traveling on a limited budget.

Whether you are staying for a few days or even longer, Blantyre is a great destination. With affordable prices on food, souvenirs, and culture the city of Blantyre may just be the getaway you are looking for.

What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
