The city of Aktau is the only seaport in Kazakhstan and is named ï��white mountainï�� for the fact that it looks over the cliffs of the sea. One interesting fact about Aktau is that the city streets do not have names but are done in a grid block system because the town was originally settled by oil workers from other parts of the country.

Buses and taxis are the principal means of transportation within the city, each offering reasonable fares for getting around, and the number of vehicles operating in the city alone is 50,000. Recently Aktau has been granted money and a plan to develop the city further in the next ten years.

Hotels are beginning to pop up in Aktau including a Renaissance Marriot Hotel which hosts the finest in luxury for both business and leisure travelers. For shopping, the Ardager Shopping Mall and The Astana Shopping Mall. The city also has a dramatic theatre as well as a Mosque and a Russian Orthodox Church. Many of these attractions are conveniently located next to hotels, including many of the shopping malls, the dramatic theatre, and the churches.

Aktau is a growing city with much to offer the cosmopolitan traveler. The city's architecture is growing and changing into some of the most beautiful modern architecture in the Middle Eastern world. What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
