For tourists looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, a relaxing trip to the hot springs in Atami is definitely in order. The city is mainly known for its onsen hot springs. Its name, in fact, literally means '?hot ocean.' The city is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park so it features a number of natural sites, interesting cultural attractions and historic monuments.

The city is fairly compact and it does have reliable transport networks but most travellers still opt to arrange for car hire in Shizuoka - Atami to get around. Before heading for the hot springs, they usually take the time to explore the most popular attractions around Atami including the MOA Museum of Art. The museum was opened in 1982 and houses the interesting collection of millionair Mokichi Okada - from Japanese calligraphy to pottery from the Tang dynasty as well as Matisse paintings and tea sets.

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
