Guide

The state of South Australia is a unique region of the Australian continent and great to tour with car hire in South Australia. Adelaide is the capital and busiest metropolis in the state, boasting historical and cultural attractions for tourists. From the rugged coastline of the Great Australian Bight, to the northern arid outback region of the state, South Australia possesses a variety of landscapes to explore. Mount Gambier boasts the best beaches of the southeastern corner.

Britz, Cut Price, Thrifty and Budget are among the busiest suppliers of rental vehicles. Visitors can pre-book cars, and pick them up from tourist hub sites, including Adelaide International Airport, the city centre, Mount Gambier and Port Augusta. Transport Options

Adelaide’s international airport serves the state of South Australia. Mount Gambier also contains an airport with domestic routes. Adelaide has a public railway network, and several limited rail links are found outside the city, including the Overland to Melbourne, The Ghan to Darwin and The Indian Pacific to Perth/Sydney. Major highways in the state include the Stuart Highway, Eyre Highway and Barrier Highway.

Car Hire Driving Tips in South Australia

Most roads and highways are sealed and safe for driving throughout the state. Premier highways like the Stuart and Eyre Highways are well-maintained. However, unsealed roads in the rural regions require caution from drivers. Road rules are strictly enforced across the state, so motorists should stay under the 100km/h speed limit on highways and avoid drinking and driving unless they want to be heavily fined.

Not to be Missed!

The Blue Lake of Mount Gambier can be reached through car rental in South Australia. An eight-hour drive north of Adelaide is Australia’s opal capital, Coober Pedy. Before heading into the outback though, tourists need to explore its gateway town – Port Augusta. Southeast of Adelaide lie some of the state’s best wine regions, including the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and the Clare Valley.

Weather & Tourist Seasons

Coastal regions of South Australia are best visited in the summer months between December and February. Temperatures average about 28°C, making summer perfect for beach holidays just outside Adelaide. Travelling to the rural areas is recommended for spring or autumn, as mean temperatures in the low 20's become more comfortable.

The following questions and answers are a selection of the most popular questions. If you do not find the answer to your question, have a look at the Frequently Asked Questions page or contact us.

Is Carrentals.co.uk the cheapest?

Yes, we offer a guarantee of the lowest price - because we compare various retailers, we can always offer you the best price in town.

What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What is a worry-free label?

Your vehicle will be provided and must be returned with a full tank of fuel. With a vehicle from our Worry-Free selection, you can travel with peace of mind and no hidden costs.

How can I change or cancel my reservation?

You can cancel your reservation through "My Account". We recommend contacting us by phone if your changes to your booking or cancellation takes place at short notice (48 hours or less).
