Explore the Gold Coast

From Coolangatta to Surfers Paradise there are numerous holiday apartments, hostels, hotels, busy beaches and bars, nightclubs and shopping for the thousands of happy holiday-makers that pass through the region.

Slightly further away Burleigh heads is particularly nice, being a somewhat more laid back option - where Surfers’ is seen as the notorious party spot.

Local theme parks include Seaworld, Movieworld, Wet n’ Wild and Dreamworld.

For those needing a day’s break from the endless beaches, nearby Mount Coo-tha also offers excellent views of the coast, as well as a fine tropical botanical garden. Slightly further north towards Brisbane is the excellent Brisbane forest park. In this area good beaches are to be found at Manly, Nudgee and Sandgate, while a day spent sailing among the many islands of Moreton Bay is always a fantastic experience too.

With car hire on offer tourists can drive 20 minutes in any direction, and the busy beaches soon turn into National Parks. You’re guaranteed to never forget the lush foliage, towering cliffs or cascading streams when setting foot among Southern Queensland’s ancient sand dunes, primordial rainforest giants, and wildlife-rich heathlands.

Journeying west into ‘the bush’ provides travellers with a timeless atmosphere, with wide open farms and small town communities which are filled with friendly outback folk.

Driving south, travellers will cross back into NSW and experience the mountainous Northern Rivers region. This is a very popular spot for surfers, nature lovers, and party people alike. Here the towns of Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and the infamous Nimbin present travellers with coffee shops and wonderful international restaurants, all set among marine reserves, sub-tropical rainforests and beaches galore.

Heading north to Brisbane, travellers can drive into the sprawling state capital’s beautiful CBD and spend an afternoon strolling, shopping and taking in the various museums and parks set by the river. Alternatively, the nearby Glasshouse mountains have a striking beauty, visually odd because of their finger-like form. Here travellers can also find Steve Irwin’s famous crocodile and wildlife centre.
