Paphos International Airport is a favourite arrivals hub for summer holidaymakers heading for popular western Cyprus beach resorts such as Limassol, Coral Bay and the town of Paphos itself. Second only in size to Larnaca International Airport, it’s a revamped, single-terminal facility that is linked with Paphos and Limassol towns by bus and taxi. The complex lies four miles from Paphos town centre, a comfortable drive of around 15 minutes, dependent on traffic conditions, with car hire in Paphos International Airport.
Who to Book With
Self-drive on Cyprus is one of the most popular ways to get around, with advance reservations in the holiday season a must in order to ensure the availability of your chosen vehicle. Companies at the airport with desk in the Arrivals hall include Sixt, Budget and Europcar, with Cypriot firms Astra and Petsas also represented. Most car hire firms based here do not allow travel into Turkish Northern Cyprus.
Need to Know Essentials
The following documents should be presented at vehicle collection:
- A valid UK or EU driving licence, or an International Driving Permit
- The credit card used to make the reservation
- A passport or EU ID card confirming your ID
- Confirmation of booking
Driving
Cyprus drives on the left, making self-drive for UK visitors a pleasant experience. Care should be taken, however, as Cypriot drivers are casual about the rules of the road. Major roads are in good condition, but minor roads can be narrow, twisting and potholed. In rural areas, traffic is sparse, but rush hour in the large towns and resorts sees congestion and is best avoided by visitors. Speed limits are 62mph on fast roads and 31mph in built-up areas. Headlights must be used from half an hour before sunrise and sunset, and seatbelts must be worn at all times. During the high summer season, parking in the major towns is tricky, with choosing a hotel with a large car park the best solution. Petrol stations open 24 hours, with attendants on duty during daytime hours and card payments normally accepted.

The fastest access to all points on the island from the airport is by self-drive, with most holiday destinations set along fast, dual-carriageway roads or motorways. Public transport to Paphos and other nearby resort destinations is by bus, the cheapest way to travel, comparatively expensive taxis or prearranged hotel shuttle buses.
Taxis
A number of taxi companies serve the airport from the rank outside the terminal, but rates are not standardised or regulated so overcharging is common. A rate for the journey should be agreed with the driver before departure or a pre-booked taxi should be used. For the under 10-minute journey to Paphos town, rates are reasonable, but for trips to island attractions, the costs soon mount up. Rates increase by one-third between midnight and 05:00.
Taxi prices:
Paphos International Airport to Paphos town centre is about £20
Paphos International Airport to Coral Bay is about £30
Paphos International Airport to Limassol is about £55
Paphos International Airport to Larnaca is about £80
Buses
Paphos bus services to and from the airport are provided by OSYPA Ltd, with timetables linking with flight arrivals. April through November sees buses every hour from 07:30 to 00:30 from a stop outside the Arrivals hall to Paphos town centre, its rail station and harbour. The journey takes 30 minutes, dependent on traffic, and costs around £1. For passengers heading to Limassol, an express bus service is offered, with the two buses daily giving a much cheaper option than taxi travel.
Terminals
The airport’s single terminal, revamped and extended in 2008, serves just fewer than three million passengers a year, with the majority arriving between May and October. EasyJet, Ryanair, Jet2 and Monarch, along with charter carriers Thomas Cook and Thomson, are the major providers of seasonal routes.
